What Do You Have To Say? - My Resolution For 2008
What's your New Year's Resolution?
Start going to the gym!  Twice a week!

Actually submit my work places.  Get published (magazines, etc).

Figure out what I want to do with the next few years of my life (college major).

Drive around a lot!  That's not really a resolution.  :)

This has maybe been my best year yet, personally.  Writing-wise, I think I took exponential leaps.  I'm doing things stylistically that I'd never have dreamt of a year ago.  I've been reading a lot of fantastic literature.  CSSSA really affected me, obviously, and it's really changed the way my writing is a part of my life, I think.
I made tons of friends.  I gained independence.  Took a couple of nice trips, got immersed in pop culture, and even got good grades.
This has in many ways also been a year of awareness for me.  Awareness of other cultures, of the world in general.  And that's always a good thing.
Overall-- Happy New Year to everybody.  May we all reach new heights in '08!

These men are dead.
Yesterday morning 33 people died. 32 of them were innocents. Most of them were students, some of them were teachers.
Something about how the sites aren't yet updated really gets to me.
I'm pretty upset about this happening. And now of course all the news is coming out, how the shooter wrote violence-laced creative writing, was a loner, et cetera. There are lots of people like that, and most of them don't go homicidal. But this is the way it goes after something like this happens.
I don't really know what to write. Just... in memory of.

Current Mood: sympatheticbummed about it

this entry is public in case someone googles it
i have several albums i bought and have not listened to and am not ready to listen to. they are all very good. 1 sonic youth, 1 ramones, 2 strokes, 1 beck, and 1 remy zero which a friend burned me and promised i would like, i believe her. i regret not buying the strokes' new album but it was almost twenty bucks. next time. i know those three albums (strokes/beck) are albums i should have bought three years ago but i kept putting it off. i kind of regret that. oh well. probably it will take months for me to listen. we'll see.

i found out about this phenomenon hikikomori and got very excited. you should look it up.

i drove seventy on the highway. i want to write about hikikomori japanese young adults who feel fucked, maybe. tao lin is very catchy.

Looking at this past year, which will be over soon (and probably end with a bang, judging by the post-magazine-obituary deaths of James Brown and Gerald Ford), I just skimmed a few livejournal entries of mine from earlier this year. Conclusion: I am a pretentious, irritating, boring bitch and if I was friends with myself I would probably stab myself.

I like to think I'm better in real life.

Anyway, I wanted to post about some things that happened to me this year, phases I went through, changes in pop-culture sensibilities, etc., but I realized this year has been really really long and I can only remember things from the past couple months, or else I might well merge it with things from '05. So uh, current favorites: Stephen King (also, I think, my biggest influence); Robert De Niro; Sonic Youth. Best movie that came out this year: Little Miss Sunshine, then Casino Royale. Best story I wrote: I'll look over my blog archives and get back to you on that. Actually, I just looked through all of the ones from this year, and I like pretty much all of the longer ones, the short stories. FWIB is pretty good, and the one from October. Well, anyway. I am proud of finishing my novel (the longest one yet) though it's not fantastic. Also proud of moving my computer plug, quitting some computer-related things, trying some new things. It hasn't been a really eventful year for me, but I think I'm the better for it.

I am dying a little bit I think. My skin is losing it. Internet diagnoses me with hypothyroidism. I like to think I have diabetes. Even better, leprosy.

On the other hand, got my permit (!). And listened to some excellent rap.
